Prom Planning Checklist
January 27th, 2014
Many teens wait all year long for prom. For a lot of students, it is the highlight not only of the year, but of their high school careers. If you want to make sure that your prom is perfect, use this prom planning checklist to ensure that every detail is in order.
6 Weeks before Prom
As soon as you know the date of the prom or at least six weeks before the dance, make the reservation for your limo. Prom season is the busiest time of year for most limo companies.
Besides the proms being held at every school in your area, there are also lots of weddings and graduations happening at the same time. If you want to make sure that you can get your choice of limo, schedule way in advance.
Also, talk to your friends and find out who will be going to prom together. Many teens share a limo with a group of friends to keep costs down, so you need to know how many people are in your group before you choose a limo.
You could go with a traditional stretch limo that seats 8 to 10, a stretch SUV limo that seats 12 to 14, a super stretch Hummer that seats 20, or even a limo party bus that seats 30.
Work out the details with all your friends and make your reservation ASAP.
This is also a good time to start shopping for a dress. Some dress shops will only sell a particular dress to one girl at each school, so that you don’t show up wearing the same thing as anyone else.
Start shopping early so that you get first choice. Shopping for your dress early also means that you have plenty of time in case you need alterations.
4 Weeks before Prom
This is a good time to plan your prom night meal. If you are going to go out for dinner before prom with friends, make your reservation now.
It can be tricky to get a reservation for a big group on a busy night like prom, so make your reservation well in advance.
You should also schedule your appointments to have your hair, makeup, and nails done.
Be sure to allow plenty of time to get home and put your dress on before your friends will start arriving for pictures and to head out to dinner.
If you haven’t bought shoes yet, you should do that now. Once you have your shoes, you can start wearing them around the house to break them in. This will help make them more comfortable for prom night.
Order flowers and boutonnieres now, too.
2 Weeks before Prom
Confirm your plans with your friends as well as your limo and dinner reservations and beauty appointments.
Try your dress on with your shoes to make sure everything is perfect.
Pick up the flowers and boutonnieres. Go to your beauty appointments wearing a button-front shirt so that you can undress without messing up your hair.
Pack your purse with money, your phone, and extra supplies, like deodorant, lip gloss, and safety pins. Now all you have to do is wait for the limo to arrive!
