The Most Common Wedding Planning Mistakes
December 18th, 2013
There are some common mistakes that couples make when planning their weddings. Don't let them happen to you! Here are some major wedding planning mistakes that you should avoid.
#1 - Last Minute Beauty Treatments
Do not try something new right before your wedding. Don't do it. If you have a facial the day before your wedding, you are likely to wake up with a break out on the morning of your vows.
If you get a spray tan the day before your wedding, you could wake up orange the next day. Don't try a last ditch fad diet so you'll be thinner for your wedding day, either; your dress may not fit.
Stick with your usual beauty routine, and try out any additions to that routine long before the big day so that you know how your body will react.
#2 - Not Putting Sufficient Postage on the Invitations
You can't stick one first-class stamp on your invitations and expect them to be delivered. A wedding invitation typically weighs much more than the average letter.
You probably have several envelopes, the invitation, the reply card, directions, and hotel information stuffed in there. Square invitations cost more than rectangular invitations, too.
Take an invitation to the post office and have them weighed to determine the proper postage before you buy stamps.
If the invitations don't have sufficient postage, they'll get returned to you, and you'll have to start over.
#3 - Disregarding Religious Restrictions
This is a great way to offend people and possibly even prevent the wedding from happening.
Talk to your officiant, and make sure you know all the steps that you need to take to make sure that your wedding runs smoothly.
You may need to participate in a religious study course prior to the wedding, dress a certain way, or use a particular set of vows.
Be respectful of the religious guidelines of your guests, as well; make sure that there are pork-free, alcohol-free dinner and drinks options for those who abstain.
#4 - Refusing Help from Friends and Family
Planning a wedding is a big job, and you don't have to do it alone. If anyone offers to help you with something, say yes.
You may want to handle every detail in the beginning, but you will soon see that there is more to do than one person can handle.
If you turn down offers of help in the beginning, people may stop offering. Accept all offers of help with a smile.
#5 - Losing Focus
It's easy to get caught up in the details and forget why you are doing this. You don't want to spend the days before your wedding fighting with your fiancée about floral arrangements.
Take a step back, take a deep breath, and remember that this is about spending the rest of your life with the person you love.
#6 - Blowing the Budget
After getting engaged, one of the first things you should do is set a budget. Weddings aren't cheap, and the costs can accumulate really quickly.
Iron out how much you are willing and able to spend on each item before you start booking vendors.
That way you don't run out of money before all the details are taken care of.
#7 - Waiting Too Long to Order a Gown
A custom dress can easily take six months to be ready. An off-the-rack dress will need alterations, and that takes some time.
In order to get the dress of your dreams, you should shop eight months or more in advance.
#8 - Book Your Wedding Transportation Limo Early!
